Earlier this week, thought we would be out of here by now! Hopefully we’re out of here tomorrow! In the last two days, Stef has had two minor procedures.
Recapping the week:
Saturday morning – reported fever resulted in hospital admission.
Saturday night – CT scan revealed “large” pocket of fluid
Sunday – fluid drained, and single drain inserted; Looked great later!
Monday – Up and about – looked great!
Tuesday – Concerns identified about potential areas not draining.. Still looked great!
Wednesday – CT Scan done – additional fluid areas identified – primary drain was not pulling from these areas as they had hoped and monitored for.
Thursday – Additional fluid spots drained and two additional drains inserted – 3 total now!
Friday – Morning CT scan done – one drain removed; two repositioned – 2 total drains. Up and about later – looked BORED. 🙂
On Thursday – we got FANTASTIC news. During our first stay – Stef took a BRCA genetic test. This is a test to determine if a gene mutation exists which would tend for a much higher risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer. Results were NEGATIVE!! When I got home I gave Acadia and Violet HUGE hugs!
Read more about BRCA here: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/BRCA
… As if the insurance company had a weird sense of humor – the same day I returned home for the night, and opened the mail to reveal a “denial” letter regarding the test indicating that it was “investigative in nature and not medically required.” OK. They got an appeal coming!
