Friday night Stef ran a temperature above the magic line (100.4) that the Doctors had told us to let them know about, and since it only registered for a moment, I was quick to dismiss because we got it under control and back to normal so quickly – after all, she was sitting all bundled up with a heating pad… None the less, Saturday morning the call was made to the doctors, and they indicated they wanted to have Stef come back in, have a CT scan, run a blood test, just to see if there’s any sort of infection.
With a full day of soccer in front of us, we were both upset. I KNEW that it was nothing – that she was just bundled up with a heating pad! The doctor said to Stef that they’d have a room for her. It was then we realized they were inviting us as overnight guests!
We made some coordination to send the kids either to their teammates or to Aunt Court, and away we went to the hospital. After getting admitted, getting settled in to the room, blood draws, a chest xray, and eventually a CT scan… Lots of waiting.. 9pm… Finally some initial results. Abscess. “Large.” Ugh.
Sunday morning – with myself out with Acadia and Owen for the National End Womens Cancer 5K in DC, Stef’s mom stood century outside the radiology area while 1.5 liters of fluid was drained from the abscess! 1.5 liters! WTH. Doctors and nurses were reportedly impressed as good shape she was in, given what was found. Shows what I apparently knew. Now I’m damn thankful that we went to the hospital.
From Saturday night to Sunday night – she looks SO much better!! SOOO much better! They’ve got antibiotics hooked up, and will continue feeding her them for the near future.
It seems that we’ll be here until at least Tuesday. Maybe Wednesday.. The important thing is that she is doing SO much better!
Here’s to eventually getting stir-crazy in the hospital again! So happy that we’re back and caught this before it got worse!!! 🙂
